Your family's story, from first steps to Grandma's childhood.

One private place where your whole family shares memories, answers small questions and leaves messages for the little ones. By voice, video or text, in whatever language they speak, and everyone reads it in theirs.

Free while in beta. Works in your phone's browser, nothing to download.

Why it matters

Family memories are scattered across group chats, camera rolls and people's heads. And when Grandma speaks Cantonese and the grandchildren speak English, half of it never gets passed on.

For every stage of family life.

Yume grows with your family. Start wherever you are.

The little ones

A page for each child, filled by the whole family.

Questions that change as they grow, messages from grandparents for when they're older, and them in their own words each year.

  • Private, never posted to social media
  • Grandparents join in, in their own language
  • Their own login when they turn 13, with everything there

“Linh, the day you were born, I cooked the soup my mother made for me. One day I'll teach you how.” Bà, translated from Vietnamese

Everyday memories

The wedding, the first day at school, the old photo in the drawer.

Share a memory any time, old or new. Tag who was there and they're asked to add their side of the story.

  • Photos, videos, voice notes or writing
  • Kept by person and by date, not lost in a chat
  • Download everything to keep
Their stories

The questions you never thought to ask.

Yume asks everyone one small question at a time. Parents and grandparents just hold the button and talk, and over time their answers become chapters of their life story, in their own words.

“At sixteen I worked in my uncle's bakery. I got up at four, but the smell of fresh bread made up for everything.” Babcia, translated from Polish

Remembering

A gentle place to gather memories of someone you've lost.

A page for them, where the family, and their friends if you like, can share what they remember. Only appears if you add someone.

Everyone uses it in their own language.

Questions, answers and every screen in the app. Grandma answers in hers, the grandchildren read it in theirs, and the original is always kept.

Speak a language that isn't here? Type it in when you sign up and Yume will do its best.

Why I made Yume

My mum speaks Cantonese and my dad speaks Vietnamese. I grew up in London, thinking and speaking in English. There's so much about their lives before they came here that I never asked about, and that they never found the words to tell me.

I made Yume so they can tell it in their own language, in their own voice, and I can finally understand it in mine. Every family has stories like these, whatever languages they speak.

Five minutes to set up. Then it runs itself.

  1. Invite your family

Create your family and send each person their own link on WhatsApp. You choose who they are, Mum or Grandad, so they don't have to set anything up.

  2. Questions and memories

Yume asks everyone a small question about their life, building on what they've already shared. Anyone can share a memory or ask each other something too.

  3. They answer however feels natural

Hold the button and talk, film a short video or type. Yume writes it out and translates it, so everyone can listen, read, react and reply.

Made for the oldest and the youngest in the family.

The people with the best stories are often the least comfortable with apps. Yume is built around them.

For parents and grandparents

  • Just talkHold the button and speak, like a voice note on WhatsApp. No typing needed.
  • Questions read aloudA natural voice reads each question in their language before they answer.
  • Bigger text from the startAnyone over 60 gets large text automatically, and can change it in one tap.
  • Someone can helpSitting with Mum? Record her answer on your phone and it's shared as hers.

For everyone else

  • Ask anyone anythingSend Dad the question you've always wondered about, with ideas if you're stuck.
  • React and replyLove a story, leave a comment or a voice reply. They'll know you listened.
  • Every story in one placeKept together by person and by date, so nothing gets lost in a group chat.
  • A weekly roundupAn email of what everyone shared, for the ones who don't open the app.

This Christmas, give your parents the gift of being listened to.
